Web Publishing
3DVIA & 3DVIA.com
The 3DVIA Studio suite requires you to host your experiences on the 3DVIA.com Website, as a means of publishing your content on the internet and increase security and portability of your 3DVIA Studio publications over the World Wide Web.
The 3DVIA.com Website is a place of exchange, sponsored by the 3DVIA team for the global 3D community worldwide, to share and communicate 3D models and experiences over the internet. Everybody can join!
You can use content hosted on the 3DVIA.com Website to create and develop your own 3DVIA Studio experiences (visit the 3DVIA.com Website and the 3DVIA Studio-proprietary 3DVIA.com Explorer for further information), and you can also publish your experiences to the 3DVIA.com Website as public or private content.
The 3DVIA Player will access your 3DVIA.com-hosted content from another site (syndication) or play it directly in the 3DVIA.com Website (e.g. when browsing for your hosted experiences). This way, internet users can view and interact with your 3DVIA Studio experiences, but they cannot edit nor appropriate them without your consent.
NOTE: The right to publish a 3DVIA Studio experience to the 3DVIA.com Website is acquired upon registration with the 3DVIA community. To join, visit 3DVIA.com/join.
The process of publishing an experience to the 3DVIA.com website is transparent and can be carried out automatically, directly from within the 3DVIA Studio authoring application, when exporting a project for the web.
Publishing to 3DVIA.com
The 3DVIA Studio application has been designed to facilitate you the process of exporting and publishing your projects for the web.
The 3DVIA Studio Web Publisher will pack your project for the web into a single .mpbin file (the file format used for exported 3DVIA Studio projects), optionally subject to prior optimization for the web, and it will also allow you to automatically upload the resulting export to the 3DVIA.com Website using your 3DVIA login and password information.
Below you will find a description of the steps to follow to build and pack a 3DVIA Studio project for the web and publish it to the 3DVIA.com Website as a sharable 3DVIA Studio experience.
Depending on whether you are using the 3DVIA Studio or 3DVIA Studio Pro application, slight differences appear: 3DVIA Studio is optimized for publishing to 3DVIA.com, whereas 3DVIA Studio Pro provides more options and thus requires to set the target to export to.
Define and set a Web Target (3DVIA Studio Pro users only)
This section concerns 3DVIA Studio Pro users only. 3DVIA Studio users can directly export to 3DVIA.com without having to manually set a Web Target, and can thus skip this section.
You must defined at least one Web Target to enable Web exporting. A Web Target is defined by the Web platform plus a configuration for the Web platform (visit the Build Workset documentation for more information on target platforms and configurations).
If no Web Target is defined, you can easily add one:
- Locate the Build Toolbar and click on the “Targets” button.
- In the Build Targets Management dialog, double-click on the keyword “<New Platform>” and select “WEB”:

- Double-click on the keyword “<New Configuration>” in the WEB target area and enter a name for your configuration (e.g. Release, Custom).
Once you have defined a Web Target, you can then build your project:
- From the Build Toolbar, select the “WEB” platform and a web configuration.

In the image above, the WEB target and the Release configuration have been selected.
- Click on the “Build” button to build your project for the selected platform and configuration.
You can follow the results of the build process from the Smart Build Console and the Output Build Console.
Export your experience for the Web and publish to 3DVIA.com
The 3DVIA Studio Web Exporter will export your experiences for the web whichever application (3DVIA Studio/3DVIA Studio Pro) you are using. The “Project Export” dialog (see below) will allow you to specify the settings to use by the Web Exporter.
The 3DVIA Studio/Pro application will automatically publish your project to the 3DVIA.com website, upon completion of the export process, unless specified otherwise.
To access the Project Export dialog,
- Using 3DVIA Studio: simply click on the “Export to 3DVIA” button in the toolbar
![]()
- Using 3DVIA Studio Pro: Locate the Build Toolbar, select the “WEB” platform and a configuration, then click on the “Export” button.
To automatically publish to the 3DVIA.com website from the 3DVIA Studio application,
- Check the box “export To 3DVIA” from the Web Export dialog.
Using 3DVIA Studio:

Using 3DVIA Studio Pro:

- Enter your “login” and “password” information.
- If you are publishing your experience for the first time, the “content ID” field will appear empty. Leave this field empty.
- Press “Ok” to start packing and publishing.
You can follow the results of the export process from the Smart Build Console and the Output Build Console.
3DVIA Studio will automatically publish your experience to the 3DVIA.com website when the export process is completed.
NOTE: Whenever the “content ID” field is empty, 3DVIA creates a new experience on the server for your publication.
The content ID is the ID of your project when published on the server, and will remembered by the 3DVIA Studio application: next time you publish your project, your experience will be updated on the server using its content ID.
To create a new experience on the server instead of updating the existing one, simply clear the “content ID” field.
To know how to share your sources, please refer to the Sharing your Project documentation.
Optimize your project for the Web
You can optimize your project for the web by setting web-specific Asset Processors and other build attributes.
To optimize your project for the Web (prior to build and export), visit the Build Explorer documentation for more information.
Note: Optimization is optional. You can build your project without setting optimized attributes.
