3dvia.com Explorer

The 3dvia.com Explorer allows you to browse for resources hosted on the 3DVIA.com website, and import them into your Project.

In addition to 3D models, you may find inner Studio samples like advanced shaders and particle systems templates, configurable UI widgets, fully-featured camera and character behaviors or generic building blocks helpers. This initial list will get enriched thanks to the community contributions, since all public Resources are accessible from the 3dvia.com Explorer. See how to contribute here.

Interface

The 3dvia.com Explorer is available from the Views menu and from the Assemble Workset.

To access content hosted on the 3dvia.com website, the 3dvia.com Explorer requires you to sign in using your 3dvia.com account:

Type in your Username and your Password and then click on Sign In to log on (an internet connection is required). If you do not have a 3dvia.com account, click on “Register” to register. ”Forgot password?” will allow you to retrieve your lost password in case you have missfortunately forgotten it. You can also access the 3dvia.com website directly from the 3dvia.com Explorer by clicking on the 3dvia logo.

Once you have signed in, 3dvia.com-hosted content will be displayed in the 3dvia.com Explorer:

Search & Display Options

Search

The “Search” field allows you to search for Resources by tag, text, name.

You can further refine your search by checking one or more filters amongst “My Models only”, “3D Models”, “Building Blocks”, “Templates”, “Behaviors”, “Shaders” and “Materials”.

For the search to take effect, you must use the Ok button – .

When the search field is empty, the 3DVIA.com Explorer displays all the Resources hosted on the 3DVIA.com website. Otherwise, only models matching the search field + filter (if checked) will be displayed.

Sort by

You can further sort the result by “top rated” or “most recent” from the “Sort by” combo-box.

Display mode

Available Resources can be displayed as a list or as thumbnails. The current display mode is highlighted in yellow.

The number of listed items is limited to 40.

Building Blocks

Note that if the imported resource is a Building Block, you have to drag it to a Schematic Graph (as opposed to the 3D View or the Project Editor). It may require you to keep your mouse over the Behavior Workset tab for a second if you are not currently in this workset.

Download Mode

When downloading a model, you can import either:

  • 3D XML: the 3D XML file (default)
  • Original: the original uploaded file (.dae/.zae only). Note that if the original file format is not supported, the 3D XML file is imported instead.

The selected download mode is stored in preferences.

Navigation Buttons

The 3dvia.com Explorer displays up to 40 Resources per page. The navigation buttons will allow you to browse the different pages.

      • Go to first page (fast backward).
      • Go to previous page.
      • Go to next page.
      • Go to last page (fast forward).

indicates the current page number out of total number of pages (here, the 3DVIA.com Explorer is diplaying page 2 out of a total of 355 pages).
